Job Summary:

The Asst/Assoc/Full Professor, Special Education is responsible for instructional work to facilitate student comprehension and application of concepts, skills, and behaviors that contribute to the development of mature, able and responsible members of society. This position exists to provide educational services to traditional and non-traditional students during the day or evening. Instructor may be required to teach courses within his/her concentration area on campus, off-campus, online courses and possible videoconferencing depending on need of location.

Essential Functions:

• Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with the university, SACS-COC accreditation, and state study and curriculum guides.
• In order to maximize student achievement, faculty should be able to assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives.
• Plans and employs a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serves the needs and capabilities of the students.
• In order to provide a general environment conducive to the learning process, the professor should be able to manage the behaviors of learners in the classroom and participate in the management of student behavior in other parts of the campus.
• Continually communicates to students (either in writing or verbally) instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.
• Actively participates in and works with university personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods and curriculum.
• Must exhibit a commitment and ability to conduct scholarly activities and engage in professional, university, and community service.
• Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, and in-service and staff development activities as required or assigned.
• Assists in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
• Ensures that the classroom or instructional environment is healthful and safe and generally conducive to learning.
• Agrees to participate in extra curricular activities as requested by the head of the department or Dean of the college.
• Serves on various committees.
• Participates and belongs to educational/professional associations (within concentration) and participates in their activities.
• Takes attendance and keeps attendance registers, according to JSU policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and social media web platform
• Content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned
• Current issues in higher education
• Budgeting for public higher education, funding, and grantsmanship
• State and Federal laws and regulations concerning Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
• Section 504, IDEA 1997 amendments and the ADA for transition and employmen

• monitoring and assessment skills to help ensure necessary enhancements and/or corrective action is taken

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate in field specific to discipline to be taught required.

Specific information for the job posting:

Candidate must have terminal degree in any area of special education. ABD candidates that will complete the terminal degree prior to January 1, 2018 will be accepted.
