Job Summary:

The Asst/Assoc/ Professor – Computer Information Systems is responsible for facilitating student comprehension and application of concepts, skills, and behaviors that contribute to the development of mature, able and responsible members of society. This position exists to provide educational services to traditional and non-traditional students during the day or evening.

Essential Functions:

•Effective teaching of graduate and undergraduate Computer Science, and/or Computer Information Systems courses from introduction to advanced levels.
•Plans and employs a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serves the needs and capabilities of the students.
•Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with the university, SACS, and ABET accreditation, and state of Alabama study and curriculum guides.
• In order to maximize student achievement, faculty should be able to assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives.
• In order to provide a general environment conducive to the learning process, the professor should be able to manage the behaviors of learners in the classroom and participate in the management of student behavior in other parts of the campus.
• Continually communicates to students (either in writing or verbally) instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.
• Actively participates in and works with university personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods and curriculum.
• Must exhibit a commitment and ability to conduct scholarly activities and engage in professional, university, and community service.
• Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, and in-service and staff development activities as required or assigned.
• Assists in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
• Ensures that the classroom or instructional environment is healthful and safe and generally conducive to learning.
• Agrees to participate in extra curricular activities as requested by the head of the department or Dean of the college.
• Serves on various committees.
• Participates and belongs to educational/professional associations (within concentration) and participates in their activities.
• Takes attendance and keeps attendance registers, according to JSU policy.
•Effective advising of Computer Science and/or Computer Information Systems majors.
•Define, conduct, and publish sustained inquiry in one or more areas in Computer Information Systems or Management information Systems. This includes, but is not limited to, publication in refereed journals, presentation at professional meetings, submission of research proposals for grants, presentation to faculty groups, and/or development of new curricula, teaching methods, or programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
• Content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned
• Current issues in higher education
• Budgeting for public higher education, funding, and grantsmanship
• Section 504, IDEA 1997 amendments and the ADA for transition and employment
• Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Internet)

Skills:
• possesses the patience, caring and desire needed to work with students to see that each student has the opportunity to succeed
• effective in oral and written communication skills
• excellent human relations skills

Ability to:
• apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
• plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students
• establish and maintain effective relationships with students and peers
• provide instruction at the university level
• establish and maintain effective relationships with organizations outside the university
• communicate effectively with all students, constituencies and administrative units of the university

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctorate in Information Systems, Computer Information Systems or Management Information Systems
or ABD with completion date by August 2018
